Mary Jo Curran C Cup

Listowel Emmets 2-17  Currow 2-4 (Listowel Emmets report)

Listowel Emmets seniors ladies played Currow in Listowel on Sunday. A great first game for Emmets ladies in the Mary Jo Curran cup as they were in control for the majority of the game played in fab sunshine . It’s great to see new players coming back to Emmetts as they had a very strong team of 19 today and Mike and Denis had plenty of talent to choose from. Scores were plentiful with lots of players getting on the scoreboard half time score Listowel 2-7 to currow 3 and full time Listowel 2-17 to Currow 2-4 .

Milltown/Listry 1-10  Laune Rangers 1-6 (Milltown/Listry report)
Milltown Listry Senior ladies played Laune Rangers in Milltown Castlemaine Pitch at 1pm in the Mary Joe Curran Cup. It was a lovely sunny day.but with a strong breeze.
Milltown Listry girls played with the breeze in the first half but it was Laune Rangers who got the first point of the game.  Both teams were evenly matched in the first half and were unlucky to have missed scores. At half time the score was Milltown Listry 1 goal and 4 points to Laune Rangers 1 goal and 2 points.  In the second half Laune Rangers had the breeze but it was Milltown Listry who got the first point. Both sides played great football but it was great teamwork by Milltown Listry and each girl giving their best that secured victory for Milltown Listry.  The final score was Milltown Listry 1 goal 10 points to Laune Rangers 1 goal and 6 points.  Thanks to both teams for a very entertaining game of football.

Rhyno Quality Feeds Senior League Div 4

Clounmacon/Moyvane 3-11  Fossa 2-11 (Clounmacon/Moyvane report)

What an entertaining game we had in Fossa on Sunday  morning. The Clounmacon girls pulled off a massive comeback against all the odds as they trailed by 9pts with 15mins left on the clock. The never say die attitude in this bunch of players is inspiring.  We played against the wind in the 1st half and did well to go in trailing by only 3pts at half time. Score C’macon 1-4 Fossa 1-7. Fossa came out all guns blazing and pulled away into what seemed an unassailable lead midway through the 2nd half but our players dug deep and piled on the pressure and pinned Fossa inside their own 45 winning kickout after kickout and turning possession into scores to run out winners by 2pts at the end. Every player gave their all and showed it is never over till it’s over.. All at the club would like to send our best wishes to Jenny McNicholas who received a serious injury during the 1st half. Hopefully she will be back on the field of play before the year is out.

(Fossa Report)

A tougher test awaited Fossa in Rd 3 of the Rhyno Quality Feeds Div 4 Senior County Leagues when Clounmacon/Moyvane descended on Fossa. Fossa launched the first attack registering 2 points.  Fresh from their exploits with the Kerry U16 on Saturday Maud Kelly and Anna Clifford played a slick passing game which in turn saw Erica Mcglynn goaling for Fossa.  Aoife o Connor, Amy Moriarty and Katie Talbot were commanding the half back line. Both sides were playing in a wholehearted manner and every ball was stoutly contested by our full back line of Grace Cahillane. Kate Murphy and Sara Sheehan. Ciara Griffin was outstanding between the posts for Fossa and saved numerous CM goal attempts. Anna O Reilly her usual athletic self covered every inch of the pitch. Amanda Ni Dhomhnaill kicked 0-3 with Rebecca Horgan adding 1-1 for CM in the first half.  Fossa’s first half scorers Erica Mcglynn 1-5 Julie Cronin 0-1 Anna Clifford 0-1. Shortly before the break we lost Sara Sheehan to injury who  was replaced by Orla Moynihan.  Anna Clifford was replaced by Amy Murphy. Jenny Mcnicholas (CM) taking a nasty knock which required the use of an ambulance. Half time Fossa 1-7 to cm 1-4. On resumption Fossa looked to be in the driving seat Shelly Clifford scored a point. Erica Mcglynn and Julie Cronin added a point each. Jodie Sheehan with an absolute peach of a goal putting Fossa 9 up. However CM seemed to gain initiative in the final 15 minutes  as the action ebbed and flowed from end to end. Fossa’s Ciara Griffin and defenses were working diligently to counteract waves of attack from CM. Ciara Haugh goaling for CM. Laura Sheehy, Louise Horgan a point each. Rebecca Horgan proving to be the thorn in Fossa’s side added 1-3, Amanda Ni Domhnaill with 2 points. Fossa lost this one by 2 point, but can be very proud of their footballing display on the day. Final score Fossa 2-12 Clounmacon/Moyvane 3-11.

We wish Jenny Mcnicholas a speedy recovery.

Finuge/St Senans 7-9 Castleisland Desmonds 4-6 (Desmonds report)

The first game of the year saw Desmonds travel to Finuge on Sunday.  Finuge/St Senans started the livelier team and were 2 goals and 2 points clear within 15 mins but the Castleisland girls found their feet at this stage and dominated the next 15 mins to bring the score level at half time. The home side scored a very early goal, and looked to be cruising to an unassailable lead, but again Desmonds fought back with 2 quick goals, and but for a late flurry from the home team, it would have been a much closer scorel ine. Praise goes to Desmonds captin. Paris,McCarthy for her commanding display, Shauna Kissane with a solid performance in an unfamiliar role, and numerous debuts for some of our u12 girls.

Milltown/Listry 2-11 Firies 1-9 (Milltown/Listry report)

Annascaul/Castlegregory 2-10

Clounmacon ladies won an enthralling encounter in Parc Na Gael on Sunday morning. An early Rebecca Horgan goal helped settle down any early nerves and when Laura Stack goaled midway through the first half ,Clounmacon led by 2-4 to 0-1. But then Annascaul took over and scored 1-5 without reply to leave the bare minimum between the sides at half time. The second half was end to end with the lead changing hands a few times. A cracking goal from Ciara Haugh appeared to put us in the driving seat but Annascaul struck back immediately with a goal of their own. With time ticking away a brilliant point by Muirne Wall after one of her trademark surging runs proved to be the winning score.for Clounmacon/Moyvane

Fossa 5-7 Ballymac 3-7

Ballymac’s 2nd Co League game was played in glorious sunshine Sunday morning at 10.00am with both sides missing players . Similar to last Sunday ,Ballymac’s  first half performance was well below the required level and they were behind 5-4 to 1-3 at half time . The 2nd half was a complete change with the Ballymac girls throwing off the shackles and they played some fantastic football . They added 2-4 to Fossa’s 0-3 and had they taken more chances  could have easily won the game . Rose Ann O Shea gave us solidity in goals , Grainne Kerins  commanded at full back , Tara & Micheala Murphy hovered up lots  of ball & cleared effectively . Claire Kenny who’d a fine game closed down the Fossa centre forward & in doing so cut off their go to ball for kick outs . Aine Rice and Una Kerins drove forward from midfield along with Veronica Heaslip  and Heather Jones at wing back .  Emma Sweeney and Leah O Neill did the finishing up front assisted by Rachel Godley and Veronica O Donnell  . All in all a very encouraging performance by all involved .

Rhyno Quality Feeds Senior County Leagues Round 1 Results

Division 1

Castleisland Desmonds 0-2 Southern Gaels 6-8DSC_0122

An inspired performance by Deirdre Corridan paved the way for a comprehensive win for the Southern Gaels side in a game played in ideal conditions in Castleisland. Corridan helped herself to 4 goals and 2 points as Desmonds had no answer to her power and craft throughout the day. The Castleisland task wasn’t helped by the sin binning of Aine O’Connor and an injury picked up by Aisling Leonard in the first half, but in truth the Southern Gaels girls were sharper and more clinical throughout. Desmonds did take the lead at the start of the game with a good point from the returning Tuna Mangan but with Corridan helping herself to 2-1 in that period ,ably supported by 2 points from Mayers Cronin points and one from Ava O’Sullivan, the half time score read Southern Gaels 2-4 Castleisland Desmonds 0-1.

It was all one way traffic in the second period as a rampant Southern Gaels put the very inexperienced Desmonds side to the sword (8 u/16 players made their senior debut)

Corridan added another 2-1 with Mayers Cronin and Cliona Murphy adding further goals. Desmonds solitary reply was a pointed free from Paris McCarthy.

Southern Gaels; Deirdre Corridan 4-2, Mayers Cronin 1-2, Cliona Murphy 1-1, Denise Curran 0-1, Ava O’Sullivan 0-1, Clodagh Quinlan 0-1.

Desmonds; Tuna Mangan 0-1, Paris McCarthy 0-1 (1f).

Division 2

Corca Dhuibhne 4-11 Scartaglin 1-6

The sun was also shining in Cordal but that was as good as it got for a young Scartaglin side as they were well beaten by an impressive Corca Dhuibhne outfit.
The girls from the west dominated the opening period with Niamh Ní Chonchúir, Ceiti Ní Lúing and Katie Ní Mhuircheartaigh scoring some good points. Goals from Niamh Ní Chonchúir and Ceiti Ní Lúing added to Corca Dhuibhne’s first half dominance. Scartaglin did show some resistance with scores from Brid Moriarty and Denis Dunlea to give them some glimmer of hope for the second period. Half Time Corca Dhuibhne 2-05 Scartaglin 0-04.

The second period of the game started brightly for Scartaglin as Brid Moriarty scored a goal and a point but the comeback was short lived as a rampant Corca Dhuibhne added goals from Ceiti Ní Lúing and Amy Finn with Niamh  Ní Chonchúir , Ceiti Ní Lúing and Katie Ní Mhuircheartaigh also adding to their scoring tally. Karen O’Connor and Mary Herlihy added points for Scartaglin but in the finish Corca Dhuibhne were comprehensive winners.

Division 4

Annascaul/Castlegregory 4-10 Ballymac 2-1 (Reporting; Anthony Curran)

20170312_101322

Today was a historic day for the Ballymac ladies club as we fielded a senior ladies team for the first time. It was the first round of county league division 4 and the game was held in Annascual. There were lots of nerves in the dressing room before hand and the situation was not helped by no ref turning up. Eventually a local ref stood in to save the day with the game starting 30 mins late.
The away team started in whirlwind fashion and had 2-04 on the board before we got going. The girls settled after that and only conceded a single point for the rest of the half. Halftime score Castle/Annascual 2-05 Ballymac 0-00.
Following a few positional changes, most notably Grainne moving to centre back, we started the second half a much better team. There was great drive and determination from the girls. The standard of play improved and we started to play the game on our terms.
Great play from keeper Michelle and backs Claire, Niamh and Naomi ensured the away team were reduced to long range shots. Midfielders Una and Veronica started running at the Annascual backs causing them alot of problems. We got a deserved goal from a long range effort by Therese and quickly followed it with a point and a goal from full forward Emma. The girls had a couple of more near misses and finished the game on the front foot.
Lots of positives to take from the game which can be worked upon. Well done to all the girls and the loyal group of supporters who made the trip.
TEAM: Michelle Lynch, Naomi O Sullivan, Claire Kenny, Maeve O Sullivan, Leah O Neill, RoseAnn O Shea, Niamh Rahilly, Veronica O Donnell (C), Una Kerins, Mary Healy, Grainne Kerins, Rachel Godley, Heather Jones, Emma Sweeney, Therese Keane.

Rhyno Quality Feeds County League Match Reports.

Many thanks to the clubs that supplied the Kerry ladies with match reports after last weekends first round of the Rhyno Quality Feeds County League .

Rhyno Quality Feeds Senior County League Roundup.

Division 1

Castleisland Desmonds 1-17 Na Gaeil 4-7

If Sky Sports were looking for a flagship game to promote the Rhyno Quality Feeds Senior County League then this thriller in Castleisland would certainly have been the one to go for.

Desmonds emerged victorious by one point, but really the contest could have gone either way with the action swinging from one end to another throughout the game.

There was some serious quality on display by both sides with Desmonds boasting the likes of senior county stars Lorraine Scanlon, Aisling Leonard, Andrea Murphy, Eilish Lynch and Jane Lynch while Na Gaeil were able to call upon Deirdre Kearney, Eilish O’Connor, Maria Quirke, Ayesha Roche and Sarah Cunningham.

After a superb first half, Na Gaeil went in leading by one point on a scoreline of 4-1 to 1-9. Na Gaeil’s ability to score goals was causing the Desmonds defence numerous problems with Maria Quirke (2, 1 pen) ,Erika O’Sullivan, and Jadyn Lucey goaling for the Tralee side and Rachael Cronin raising the green flag for the Castleisland girls. It could have been worse for Desmonds, but goalkeeper Caitlinn Nolan made 2 good saves to keep her side in the game.

Desmonds tightened up their defence in the second half and Na Gaeil were finding it more difficult to penetrate the Desmonds defence. Lorraine Scanlon was ruling the roost at midfield and supplying decent ball into the dangerous Leanne Mangan and Andrea Murphy. With time running out and the sides level, Lorraine Scanlon was fouled 21 metres from goal. Desmonds captain Rachael Cronin stepped up and struck the free kick with her trusty left leg straight over the bar to seal a one point win for the Castleisland team.

Na Gaeil had very impressive performers in flying wingers Megan Sheehy and Jadyn Lucey, Marie Quirke, Eilish O’Connor, Sarah Quigley and Sarah Cunningham, while Desmonds best were goalkeeper Caitlinn Nolan, Aisling Leonard , Lorraine Scanlon, Eilish Lynch, Rachael Cronin, Leanne Mangan, Andrea Murphy,  and the evergreen Sandra Hartnett.

Scorers Na Gaeil;  Sarah Cunningham 0-3, Maria Quirke 2-1 ,Erika O’Sullivan 1-0, Jadyn Lucey 1-0, Megan Sheehy 0-2, Eilish O’Connor 0-1

Scorers Desmonds; Leanne Mangan 0-6 (0-2 frees), Andrea Murphy 0-5, Lorraine Scanlon 0-3, Rachael Cronin 1-2 (0-1 free), Sandra Hartnett 0-1.

Inbhear Sceine Gaels 1-7 Southern Gaels 2-14

An inspired performance from Mary Cronin guided Southern Gaels to a 10 point victory over Inbhear Sceine Gaels in Sneem on Sunday.  Inbhear Sceine Gaels led by 1-7 to 1-4 at half time, however it was all Southern Gaels in the second half of the game. Cronin finished the game with 1-3 to her name while she was well assisted by Deirdre Corridan on 1-6, Anna Galvin on 0-4 and Lisa O’Sullivan with 0-1.

Corca Dhuibhne 4-8 Beaufort 4-13

Division 2

Rathmore 1-6 Scartaglin 1-12

Scartaglin created a bit of a surprise when they defeated Rathmore by 6 points in Rathmore on Sunday. Veteran Mags Fitzgerald was the difference between the teams as her 8 point haul inspired the Scart girls to victory. Rathmore, short 6 of their regular starting team, goaled through Catriona Desmond ,while the O’Mahony twins and Aoife Ryan were also on the scoresheet for them.

Laune Rangers 2-1 John Mitchels 6-14

John Mitchels were much too strong for a depleted Killorglin side in Cloon last Sunday. Mitchels totally dominated this game and led 3-5 to 1 goal at half time. Katelyn O’Sullivan, Cliodhna Hayes, and Leona O’Shea played well all through the game while Shauna Hanafin was superb at midfield.

Listowel Emmets 2-6 Finuge -St Senans 2-11

Finuge /St Senans were too strong for Listowel Emmets in the big local derby with Finuge/St Senans emerging victorious by 5 points. The half time score was Finuge /St Senans  1-05 to Listowel Emmets 0-02 Emmets did stage a good comeback in the second half and scored goals through Kate Sayers and Caoimhe O’ Sullivan but it wasn’t enough to gain the win.

Final Score Emmets 2-06 to Finuge /St. Senans 2-11.

Division 3

Austin Stacks 4-19 Clounmacon/Moyvane 3-4

Austin Stacks proved too strong for a spirited Clounmacon/Moyvane side in Connolly Park last Sunday. Stacks led by 3-15 to 2-1 at half time. Erin Finucane (1-2), Rebecca Horgan, Grainne Martin, Laura Stack (1-0), Laura Lavery (1-1) and Laura McLaughlin never stopped trying for Clounmacon/Moyvane.

Spa 5-9 Firies 2-9

Spa welcomed back some oldies but goodies to their team for their victory over Firies, however it was one of their younger players Roisin Kearney who stole the limelight with 3 goals in the game.

Spa led by 3-3 to 6 points at half time but Firies, inspired by Maura O’Connor, never stopped trying throughout the game.

Dr Crokes 3-18  Kilcummin 5-6

Kilcummin got off to a great start by opening the scoring with two quick goals through Eilish O’Leary.   Rheanna O’ Shea replied with a goal and a point for Dr Crokes.  Amanda Brosnan scored 1-5 for Crokes in the first half . Half Time : Dr Crokes 2-8 Kilcummin 2-3.
Christina Cooper and Siobhan Burns(0-4) had great games for Dr Crokes in the second half as the Killarney side had too much firepower for their Kilcummin neighbours. The Crokes backline of Megan Kiely, Edel O’ Carrol and Megan Brosnan where outstanding all through. For Kilcummin , Eilish O’Leary, Maggie Doherty and Emer Casey played best on the day.
