Clounmacon/Moyvane and Legion Face Off in Randles Bros Junior B Final.

Clounmacon/Moyvane take on Killarney Legion in the final of the Randles Bros Junior B Championship on Sunday 2nd September at Currans GAA Centre of Excellence at 1.30pm.

Both sides will really fancy their chances of lifting the title in this one as they’ve been showing some excellent form of late.

The Clounmacon/Moyvane team features a number of Kerry Camogie stars so they will certainly be fit and up for the task. Their captain Louise Horgan is a very solid full back and she will be helped by players like Sarah Breen and Ashlea Sheehy in what appears to be a very solid defence. Munster U18 rugby star Muirne Wall is bound to be very prominent at midfield alongside former Kerry minor Moira O’Flaherty, while up front Erin Finucane, Rebecca Horgan and Gillian Musgrave could do serious damage if given the opportunity.

Centra half back Sarah Leahy is the shining light in the Legion defence and the Kerry senior panelists pace could cause Clounmacon/Moyvane some problems. She will be helped by Zena Shine and Sonia Smith, whilst the midfield of Isabelle Corridan and Ellen Coffey form a very mobile unit. In the forwards Liz Mohan is Legion’s key player while Denise Lyne and Abbie Cronin will carry a major threat, The Legion bench is also very strong with Kerry minor Ciara Randles an excellent player, along with Kerry U16 players Tara Murphy and Kerri Ann Hanrahan.

This game is really difficult to predict a winner and there will only be a kick of a ball between the sides in the finish.

Randles Bros Championship Finals On Sunday 2nd September.

There are 2 massive finals up for grabs in the Randles Bros Championships at Legion GAA on Sunday 2nd September.

The senior final sees Rathmore take on Killarney at 12 noon while the Intermediate fnal features Na Gael and ISG, and they go into battle at 1.45.

Rathmore come into the senior final on the back of a comprehensive 6-14 to 3-6 semi final victory over 2017 champions Southern Gaels. The East Kerry side were on fire that day, and the south Kerry girls had no answer to their pace and power.

The Rathmore team  features a number of players that have worn the county jersey at all levels and looks to be a formidable line up. They last won the championship in 2016 and will be keen to add to their honours list.

Players like Sinead Warren, Sarah Murphy, Aislinn Desmond, Brid Ryan,Caroline Reen and Aoife O’Callaghan give Rathmore a formidable look and if you add in Kerry U16 stars Daniele O’Leary and Mary Collins then it is clear to see why Rathmore come into the game as favourites to win the Caroline Broderick Perpetual Cup. The talent at Rathmore’s disposal is a credit to the brilliant underage work that the club has done over the past number of years.

Killarney are no slouches either though, and really put Castleisland Desmonds to the sword in their semi final with an impressive 6-11 to 0-9 victory. The Spa/ Dr Crokes/ Fossa combination also boasts a number of players that have starred for the county and they will be no pushovers. Players like Siobhan Burns, Kate Stack, Cassandra Buckley, Gina Crowley, Kate Maher, Loreta Maher, Mairead Finnegan, Amanda Brosnan and Anna Clifford really impressed in that victory ,while Eilish O’Leary and Erica McGlynn are certain to have a major say in the destination of the title.

On balance though it appears that Rathmore have the stronger outfit overall but don’t be surprised if Killarney rise to the occasion and cause a surprise.  It promises to be a cracker!

The Intermediate semi final sees last years defeated finalists Na Gaeil do battle with surprise package ISG.

Tralee side Na Gaeil upset the apple cart when they firmly defeated pre championship favourites Beaufort in the semi final on a 4-10 to 0-8 scoreline having previously defeated Corca Dhuibhne at the quarter final stage.

They can call upon players like Laura Fitzgerald, Deirdre Kearney, Nora O’Connell, Mary O’Connell and Ayesha Roche, while their forward line has match winners in Megan Sheehy, Jadyn Lucey, Megan O Connor and Meabh Barry.

ISG come into the final under the radar and are very much an unknown quantity They have quality in their side however with Julie O’Sullivan, Laura O’Sullivan, Emma O’Sullivan, Katie Palmer and Julie Crowley certain to take the fight to Na Gaeil.

Overall though, it looks like Na Gaeil will have too much quality in their side to let this one slip.

Randles Bros County Championship Semi Final Previews.

In the Randles Bros Senior Championship there are 2 semi finals down for decision on Sunday August 26th.

Southern Gaels v Rathmore, Ballinskelligs @12noon

Southern Gaels welcome Rathmore to Ballinskelligs at 12 noon in what could prove to be the match of the championship. Defending champions Southern Gaels accounted for Mid Kerry in the quarter final on a 4-13 to 2-13 scoreline after a hard fought battle,

Central to the Southern Gaels victory that day were Bernie Cronin, Mayers Cronin, Deirdre Corridan, Amy Fitzgerald and Linda Cronin and the south Kerry girls will once again look to them for leadership.

Rathmore easily accounted for Austin Stacks in their quarter final meeting and with players of the calibre of Aislinn Desmond, Brid Ryan, Sarah Murphy, Aoife O’Callaghan and Brid Ryan they will come into the game as favourites to lower the Southern Gaels colours.

Ballinskelligs is never an easy place to travel to though and the vocal home support is certain to inspire Southern Gaels. On balance it appears that Rathmore should come through in this one.

Castleisland Desmonds v Killarney, Castleisland @1pm

In the other semi final Castleisland Desmonds will entertain Killarney at 1 pm in Castleisland. Desmonds are going through somewhat of a transition period at the moment and with a number of their U/16 players expected to tog out. they will be hard pressed to defeat the visitors.

They can still rely on quality players like Kerry seniors Lorraine Scanlon, Andrea Murphy and Eilis Lynch, while Labhaoise Walmsley, Kayla O’Connor, Rachael Cronin and Mariah Curtin are others that they will look to for inspiration.

Killarney are backboned by the Dr Crokes, Spa and Fossa clubs an will bring a mix of young and experienced players to the game. County star Amanda Brosnan, Mairead Finnegan, Gina Crowley,Anna Clifford, Loreta Maher, Anna O’Reilly and Erica McGlynn are players of proven quality and Killarney will look to them to steer the team to the county final.

If Scanlon is on song then Desmonds have a chance, but the odds point to a victory for the visitors.

Randles Bros Intermediate Championship Semi Final

Na Gaeil v Beaufort , Beaufort @12 noon

Na Gaeil travel to meet Beaufort in the first Intermediate Championship Semi Final at 12 noon. This is a very difficult game to call as both sides are very evenly matched.

Beaufort enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Scartaglin in the quarter final and players like Sarah Houlihan, Hannah O’Donoghue, Amy Foley,Fiadhna Tangney and Ann Marie O’Donoghue were on fire that day.

Na Gaeil had a hard fought 2-9 to 0-12 point victory over Corca Dhuibhne in their quarter final and they have excellent players like Meabh Barry, Mary O’Connell, Eilis O’Connor, Deirdre Kearney and Jadyn Lucey in their ranks. They play at a high tempo and their experience of narrowly losing to Austin Stacks in the final last year could stand to them.

This game could go down to the wire but Beaufort’s electric forward division could swing the tie in the finish.
