Kerry Senior Ladies Name Their Team For Mayo Clash.

The Kerry ladies team to take on Mayo in the Round 7 of the Lidl ladies National Football League Division 1 shows one change to the side that defeated Armagh in the last round with Emma Sherwood of the Firies club starting at midfield at the expense of Aisling O’Connell who is still recovering from injury. There are a number of positional changes on the team with Aislinn Desmond moving to full back while Caroline Kelly will take up the centre half back position. Meanwhile Amanda Brosnan will move to the half forward line from midfield.

Mayo come into the game on the back of a 1 point victory over Dublin in the last round. They are currently on 6 points and need a win to avoid relegation to Division 2. Kerry are on 9 points and a victory over Mayo could propel them into a top 4 semi final position depending on how other results in the league .

Kerry v Mayo throws in at 2pm on Sunday in Swinford Amenity Park.

Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 1.

Kerry 2-6 Mayo 2-8

Kerry had no joy against unbeaten Mayo in Division 1 of the Lidl Ladies National Football League on Sunday in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney

Sarah Houlihan registered 2-3 for the Kingdom but it wasn’t enough as Mayo preserved their 100 per cent record.

Aileen Gilroy’s goals for Mayo in either half , proved crucial to the outcome as she raised her first green flag in the 23rd minute before striking again four minutes from time.

Gilroy’s opening effort put Mayo 1-3 to 0-3 clear but Kerry rallied to lead by 1-5 to 1-3 at half-time, as Houlihan collected the first of her brace three minutes before the interval.

Houlihan was on target again eight minutes into the second half as Kerry grabbed a firm stranglehold on the game but Mayo fought their way back and ultimately it was a run of 1-5 without reply that swung the game in favour of the Westerners.

After Houlihan’s second goal, Kerry didn’t score again until stoppage time through Anna Galvin, but by then it was unfortunately too late.

Kerry played some good football throughout but Mayo were just that bit sharper in front of goal.

Kerry’s next game is on April 3rd away to Monaghan and then on April 10th Kerry welcome Tyrone to the Kingdom.
