There were 2 semi finals down for decision in the Randles Bros senior county championship this weekend.
Killarney travelled to play Castleisland Desmonds and qualified for the final after a comprehensive 6-11 to 0-9 victory. The Spa/Dr Crokes /Fossa combination were much too strong for the largely inexperienced local side, and were ruthless in their execution as they easily dismantled the home teams challenge.
An early goal from Siobhan Burns started Killarney on their way, and with and with further 3 pointers from Kate Stack, Cassandra Buckley and 2 more from the lethal Burns, the victors took a 5-8 to 2 point lead in at the break.
Desmonds improved in the second half and Lorraine Scanlon slotted over 4 free kicks but with Mairead Finnegan adding another goal at the death Killarney ran out as comprehensive 6-11 to 0-9 victors.
Killarney scorers; Siobhan Burns 3-1, Kate Stack 1-2, Mairead Finnegan 1-2, Cassandra Buckley 1-1, Amanda Brosnan 0-3, Anna Clifford 0-1, Loreta Maher 0-1.
Desmonds scorers; Lorraine Scanlon 0-4f, Andrea Murphy 0-2, Fiona Griffin 0-1, Paris McCarthy 0-1, Rachael Cronin 0-1.
In the other semi final Rathmore travelled down to Portmagee and came home with the reigning champions scalp with a very impressive 6-14 to 3-6 victory.
In the Randles Bros Intermediate semi final Na Gaeil had a deserved 4-10 to 0-8 victory over Beaufort. Beaufort raced into an early 2 point lead courtesy of Sarah Houlihan, but from then on it was all Na Gaeil as they hit 2 goals and 3 points without reply, with Ayesha Roche and Megan Sheehy doing the damage.
It was then Beaufort’s turn to strike back and Houlihan, Amy Foley and Fiadhna Tangney added points to stay in touch. Na Gaeil finished the half stronger however and added further points from Meabh Barry, Megan O’Connor, Nora O’Connell and Sheehy.
The second half ebbed and flowed for a period but Na Gaeil soon took a firm stranglehold once more with Barry adding a further 2 points while Jadyn Lucey and substitute Erica O’Sullivan chipped in with a couple of goals. Houlihan slotted over 3 points for Beaufort but it mattered little as Na Gaeil finished as impressive 14 point winners.
