Rory Kilgallen Appointed As Coaching and Academy Coordinator.

Rory Kilgallen of John Mitchels has been appointed to the newly created role of Coaching and Academy Coordinator for the Kerry LGFA.

In the role Kilgallen will be responsible for the the development and structuring of all Kerry LGFA academies, and one of his major briefs will be the upskilling of coaches involved in the academy process. It is believed that Rory is the ideal person to raise the bar and improve standards of coaching in the county, and to ensure that all players are developed to the level necessary for intercounty football.

Kilgallen brings a vast amount of experience to the role. As a player he distinguished himself as a goalkeeper with his club John Mitchels for many years, winning an U21 County Championship medal in the process. Rory also represented Kerry at the U21 grade, and he played with the Kerry senior team during the 1984 National League campaign.

His coaching pedigree is even more impressive. Kilgallen’s record with Kerry underage teams reads as follows ;

  • 2014 – Assistant manager to the Kerry U/14 team that claimed Munster and All Ireland honours.
  • 2016 – Manager of Kerry U/14 team that claimed the Munster title and were beaten All Ireland finalists.
  • 2018 – Manager of Kerry U/16 team that claimed the Munster title and were beaten All Ireland finalists.

Kilgallen has been involved with underage Development squads since 2011 and has been Chairman of the North Kerry Ladies Board since 2013. He is also currently the club secretary with John Mitchels GAA ,and is also a member of the Austin Stack Park Development Committee.

Meet The Kerry Senior Team.

Rose Hotel Victories For Glenflesk And Corca Dhuibhne.

The Rose Hotel Division 2 Cup Final

Glenflesk 4-9 Kerins O’Rahilly’s 1-9

Glenflesk u12sKOR and Glenflesk u12 captains

Glenflesk’s ability to get goals at vital times proved the difference in this excellent Division 2 final played in Castleisland on Tuesday evening. In fairness to Kerins O’Rahilly’s they played very well but the Glenflesk sides ability to take their chances when they presented themselves ultimately guided them to the title.

Kerins O Rahillys u12sGlenflesk captain u12

Glenflesk led by 2-4 to 1-5 at half time with their goals coming from full forward Abby Cronin and their impressive centre half back Aoibhinn Gleeson, whilst Eabha Ruddin,Aoife O’Connor and Gleeson also contributed points to the scoreboard. Kerins O’Rahilly’s goal came from Sophie Hassett. They also totted over points through Kelly Fitzgerald and Aoibhinn O’Connor McCarthy.

Abbey Cronin struck for two further goals in the second half for Glenflesk and further points from Gleeson, Cronin and Clodagh McCarthy sealed an impressive win.Kerins O’Rahilly’s never stopped trying though, but 4 points from Aoibhinn O’Connor McCarthy weren’t enough to snatch victory for the Tralee side.

Kerry LGFA Secretary Donal Rahilly presented the shield afterwards to a delighted Glenflesk captain Hannah Ryan.Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game.

Corca Dhuibhne 4-9 Killarney Legion 0-6

Corca Dhuibhne claimed the Division 4 shield after an impressive victory over a spirited Killarney Lagion side at Castleisland last Tuesday night. Corca Dhuibhne were very strong throughout the field, and while the scoreline didn’t do justice to Legion’s efforts, the west Kerry girls had too many aces in their pack to be denied victory.

Legion U12sCD u12 captain

Corca Dhuibhne’s lethal forward line did the damage on the night with centre half forward Caoimhe Ni Dhubhain contributing 2 goals and 3 points to the scoreboard and full forward Meabh Nic an Ultaigh chipping in with a goal and 2 points.  They also had points from towering midfielders Beth Ni Bhambaire and Ella Ni Ainifein, whilst Eabha Ni Shiurdain (2) and Aisling Ni Chinneide also got on the scoresheet. Lightning corner forward  Jessie Ni Loinsigh scored the goal in the second half that her hard working performance deserved.

Legion had fine performances throughout the field and goalkeeper Amber MacIndoe made some fine saves.Beatrice Corridan and Aine Fitzgerald were also very prominent in defence along with centre half back Eabha Stack who contributed 2 points.Midfielders Orianne McGillicuddy with 2 points and Lauren Carey also got on the score sheet while Evie Fahy chipped in with a point.

Kerry LGFA PRO Dan Kearney presented the trophy afterwards to Corca Dhuibhne captain Caoimhe Ni Dhubhain. Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game.

Castleisland Desmonds also enjoyed a hard fought victory over Abbeydorney in the Rose Hotel Division 2 Plate final – match report and pictures to follow.

IMPORTANT U16 Kerry Trials Venue update.

Due to the heavy rain it has not been possible to source a suitable venue for U16 trials in the Killarney/E Kerry area.

The only viable alternative has been to move the trial scheduled for Killarney to:

John Mitchels, Tralee at 10am – until 11.30am approximately.

The second U16 trial will go ahead at:
Caherslee pitch Tralee at 1pm – until 2.30pm approximately.
Girls should bring water, mouth-guards and a change of clothes.
Again we apologise for the short notice, unfortunately we are at the mercy of the weather when it comes to sourcing venues.
