1st Year #serioussupport program

Dear 1st Year teacher,

Firstly thank you so much for everything you do for the first year students entering your school, many of which are also members of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. We have spoken to a number of teachers and they have highlighted the importance of role models for girls at this age as they transition into post primary schools and with this in mind we have teamed up with our sponsor and retail partner Lidl to offer a four-part series of free recorded webinar sessions for you to access for your school.

The purpose of these sessions is to increase retention rates in sport for this age cohort and to make the students aware that they do not only have to be players to remain involved in sport. We have four excellent sessions recorded from some of our top players and these are not just aimed at our sport but sport in general. Details of these sessions are listed below and the dates each one will be released.

Session 1 – Tuesday 1st March

Importance of Sport in Transition to Post Primary School and Pitfalls to Avoid for Dropout – Carla Rowe (Dublin)

Session 2 – Tuesday 8th March

Sport and Positive Wellbeing – Cora Staunton (Mayo)

Session 3 – Tuesday 15th March

School and Sport Balance: Getting the Best from Both – Emer Gallagher (Donegal)

Session 4 – Tuesday 22nd March

Avenues to get involved in sport within your school or club – Orlagh Farmer (Cork)

These will be inspiring talks as the players involved share their experiences on these topics to help the first year students in your schools. The sessions are 30 minutes approximately ensuring they will slot perfectly into a class timetable with 10-15 minutes remaining to discuss the questions posed at the end of each recording within the classroom setting.

The sessions will go live on the dates above through a private link on the LGFA YouTube accessible only to the teachers who have registered their interest using the link on attached poster or you can CLICK HERE. The recordings can then be played in the classroom through YouTube on screen for the group to watch together and are not available for individual students.

We look forward to hearing from you all and please feel free to share with other teachers of 1st year classes and we hope the talks will assist the students in your school.

Thank you in advance,

Regards

Lyn Savage
