Thursday, 29 April 2010

We would like to congratulate Donal Curtin on his election as Chairman of the Kerry Ladies Board. Pat Hartnett and Donal Curtin were the two nominees for the position at Wednesday night's EGM and a vote was held by the delegates present to elect the new Chairman of the Board. Donal emerged as the choice of the delegates and accordingly assumes the Chair. We would also like to commiserate with Pat Hartnett. In other business on the night former Kerry Ladies Board Vice Chairman Paddy White was elected to the position of Assistant Secretary. The draws for the club championships were also made and we will have all the details of the draws in the days ahead. We would like to wish Donal and the executive the very best in the future. There is alot of work to be done for the betterment of Ladies football in Kerry and we woulld like to thank all of the clubs for the positive feedback we received over the past few weeks. Donal Curtin succeeds Paudie Breen who stepped down as Chairman earlier in the year.

Ladies u16 Munster Semi-Final

Kerry 4-16

Waterford 2-5

A wonderful display of pace and power by the Kerry u16 side in Castletownroche on Wednesday evening was good enough to secure a place in the Munster u16 final which is due to be played on July 17th. David O’Connor’s side showed great signs of improvement after a poor opening display against Cork in the Munster championship. The return of Laura Rodgers and Leanne Mangan was key to this much improved display while Megan O’Connell and Nicole O’Connor did superbly in the full forward line. Kerry also welcomed back basketball start Megan Buckley to the panel last night and they will also hope that both Sarah Kelly and Ciara Murphy will recover in time to play a big part in their Munster title challenge. We will have a full match report shortly on this web site.

Kerry: Michelle O’Connor (Kenmare), Kate O’Sullivan (Corca Dhuibhne), Sinead Guiney (Castleisland Desmonds), Ayesha Roche (Na Gaeil), Eibhlís Dillon (Duagh) , Ciara Murphy (Corca Dhuibhne), Barbara Browne (Brosna), Laura Rodgers (Austin Stacks) (0-1), Maria Quirke (Na Gaeil) (0-2,2f), Sabrina Sheehan (Glenbeigh) , Anna Galvin (Southern Gaels) (0-1,1f), Claire O’Sullivan (Sneem/Kenmare) (1-2,2f) , Nicole O’Connor (Ballyduff) (2-0), Megan O’Connell (Southern Gaels) (0-5), Leanne Mangan (Castleisland Desmonds) (1-3,2f) Subs used: Laura Sheeran (Duagh) (0-2), Alice Neville (Listowel), Johanna O’Callaghan (Laune Rangers), Shauna Moriarty (Kerins O’Rahilly’s)

Munster U14 Final

Cork v Kerry Venue Kanturk on Saturday May 1st at 1 pm.

Kerry meet Cork in the Munster u14 Football Final in Kanturk on Saturday May 1st. This is the first inter county Provincial decider of the year and hopefully our girls will have a large and vocal Kerry support. Denis Healy's side defeated both Tiiperary and Clare on the way to the Provincial decider while Cork also handed out heavy defeats to the girls form the Banner and the Premier counties. Kerry met Cork last season in Annascaul and despite a great second half performance lost out to the young Rebel side. Kerry then went on to Mayo in the All Ireland B final and were unlucky one point losers in Bruff. This year's u14 side have plenty of promise with some wonderful talent running throughout the team. In the round robin match against Clare in Listowel Kerry scored an impressive 11 goals and they were also missing some key players like Clodagh Hayes and Sinead Brosnan from Kerins O'Rahilly's. The key to Kerry's displays to date has been the brilliance up front of the likes of Savannah McCarthy and Erin Finnucane while Megan O'Connor has also been superb in the middle third of the field. We wish Denis, and backroom team and all of the players every success in this crunch encounter.
